Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has received a major financial boost for rural development and employment generation, with the Union Ministry of Rural Development approving ₹3,210.76 crore under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural). The allocation is expected to accelerate infrastructure development, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the rural economy across the state.
The approved budget includes ₹1,783.76 crore earmarked for labour wages, ensuring timely payment to millions of rural workers engaged in development projects. Another ₹1,189.17 crore has been allocated for materials and construction resources required for works such as rural roads, water conservation, pond rejuvenation, irrigation facilities, and the creation of durable community assets. Additionally, ₹237.83 crore has been set aside for administrative expenses to strengthen project management, monitoring, transparency, and timely implementation.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed gratitude to Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the substantial allocation. He said the Centre’s continued support under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enabled Uttar Pradesh to effectively implement rural development schemes and create new opportunities for employment, self-employment, and livelihood enhancement.
Maurya noted that the allocation would benefit employment assistants, mates, women associated with self-help groups, rural youth, and other beneficiaries linked to the Rural Development Department. He added that the financial support reflects the Centre’s commitment to making villages self-reliant while strengthening rural infrastructure, women’s empowerment, and local economic growth.

The state government said the labour component would be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible workers, ensuring timely wage payments and increasing purchasing power in rural areas. The funds allocated for materials will facilitate the creation of high-quality and durable public assets, contributing to long-term infrastructure development in villages.
The Uttar Pradesh government has pledged to ensure transparent, efficient, and time-bound utilisation of the approved funds across all districts. Officials believe the allocation will accelerate ongoing development projects, expand employment opportunities, improve basic amenities, and reinforce the state’s contribution towards achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
